Overview

The Delta 5 is the polymer-stocked version of Daniel Defense's bolt gun, sharing the action, barrel system, and trigger with the Delta 5 Pro while leaving off the aluminum chassis. Daniel Defense lists a mechanically bedded stainless steel action with an integral recoil lug, a three-lug bolt with a 60 degree throw and a floating bolt head, and a proprietary barrel nut that lets the owner swap the cold hammer forged barrel without a gunsmith.

Two configurations are cataloged: a 24 inch Heavy Palma 6.5 Creedmoor at 9.5 lb and 44 inch maximum overall length, and a 20 inch Heavy Palma .308 Win at 8.9 lb and 40 inch maximum overall length. Both thread 5/8x24, carry a 20 MOA Picatinny base, and ship with a five-round Magpul PMAG 5 7.62 AC AICS short-action magazine and a Daniel Defense full-latch hard case.

The carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer stock adjusts for comb height, yaw, and drift plus length of pull and butt pad height, and carries 14 M-LOK points along the forend with three M-LOK QD sling points. There is no ARCA dovetail on this stock, which is the main thing separating it from the Pro; Daniel Defense sells a Pro Chassis System cut for the Delta 5 action if that becomes the priority later.

Key Features

  • User-interchangeable cold hammer forged barrel with a proprietary barrel nut
  • Mechanically bedded stainless steel action with an integral recoil lug
  • Three-lug bolt, 60 degree throw, floating bolt head, and a removable 5/16-24 bolt knob
  • Timney Elite Hunter adjustable single-stage trigger, 1.5 to 4 lb, with a two-position safety
  • 20 MOA Picatinny base with 5.8 MRAD of elevation on four #10-32 bolts
  • Configurable polymer stock with adjustable cheek riser, length of pull, and butt pad height
  • 14 M-LOK points on the forend plus three M-LOK QD sling points

Pros

  • +Barrel swaps without a gunsmith, including caliber changes on the same action
  • +Timney Elite Hunter trigger and 20 MOA base come standard rather than as upgrades
  • +AICS short-action feeding keeps magazine and bottom-metal options broad

Cons

  • Polymer stock has no ARCA rail, so a competition-style forend means buying the Pro Chassis System
  • No factory muzzle brake, unlike the Area 419 Hellfire on the Pro
  • Delta 5 action is proprietary, so Remington 700 chassis, bases, and triggers do not transfer
