Overview

The PSA Sabre-15 M4A1 is Palmetto State Armory's closest run at an issued Block I M4A1, and the barrel is where the money went. It is a PSA cold hammer forged chrome moly vanadium tube, chrome lined, phosphate finished, and cut to the M4A1 SOCOM profile with the launcher slats. Length is 14.5 inches with an extended A2 flash hider pinned and welded to clear the 16 inch federal minimum, so the rifle handles like a carbine without a Form 1. Gas is carbine length off an F-marked front sight base with a side sling swivel, which is the correct period detail for the clone and also the reason the handguard is a drop-in quad rail rather than a free float tube.

Underneath the clone details the parts list is unusually good for the price. The bolt carrier group is PSA's Fathers of Freedom unit built by MicroBest with a magnetic particle inspected Carpenter 158 bolt and a Sprinco extractor spring, which is the component most budget carbines cheap out on. The upper is forged 7075-T6, T-marked, hard coat anodized, and ships with a MaTech rear backup sight. The lower is PSA's Sabre M4A1 receiver with the cage code marking, a classic M4 stock, and a classic A2 grip.

What you give up is upgrade room. The pinned and welded flash hider closes off muzzle device swaps and direct thread suppressor mounting, the fixed front sight base rules out most free float rails, and the trigger and charging handle are plain mil-spec. Rail covers and the vertical grip come in the box, which matters because a bare quad rail is unpleasant to hold for long.
