Bear Creek Arsenal BC-15 5.56 NATO Right Side Charging Upper (16")

The Bear Creek Arsenal BC-15 5.56 side charging upper is one of the most affordable ways into a side-charging AR-15. It pairs a 16-inch M4-profile 5.56 NATO barrel with a 1:7 twist, a mid-length gas system, a 15-inch M-LOK free-float handguard, the Gen 2 side charging handle, a BCA bolt carrier group, and a 1/2x28 flash hider, and it bolts onto any standard AR-15 lower.

The defining feature is the patented Gen 2 right side charging system. The handle bolts to the bolt carrier and sits on the right side of the upper, so it reciprocates, traveling with the carrier as the action cycles through a relief groove Bear Creek cuts behind the ejection port. Even though the handle moves, charging happens off the side of the receiver rather than the rear, so the stroke stays clear of a mounted optic and the shooter can cycle the action without breaking the firing grip, which helps left-eye-dominant shooters, prone shooting under an optic, and clearing malfunctions with a magnified scope in the way.

This is a value-tier upper, not a match barrel. The appeal is the side-charge layout at a price point where most side-charging uppers cost two to three times more. The 1:7 twist stabilizes heavy 5.56 loads, the mid-length gas is the sensible default for a 16-inch barrel, and the 1/2x28 muzzle threads accept a 5.56 suppressor or any standard AR muzzle device.
