Scalarworks LEAP/08: New 30mm QD Mounts in Two Heights

Scalarworks announced a new LEAP/08 on September 17, 2026, replacing its earlier 30mm scope mount with an updated installation system and a second rail clamp. The result keeps the familiar cantilever shape and low-profile thumbwheels, but changes how the mount grips the rifle, closes around the scope, and levels the reticle.

The line starts with two separate products. SW0815 places the scope centerline 1.57 inches over the rail and weighs 161 grams. SW0825 raises it to 1.93 inches and weighs 178 grams. Both use 30mm rings, both have 0 MOA of cant, and both attach to a MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rail. Each is listed at $419.

A quick-detach mount has two jobs: hold the same tension on the rail and get out of the way when the optic has to come off. Scalarworks uses recessed ClickDrive wheels instead of long throw levers. The new LEAP/08 doubles that interface, placing one clamp near each end of the base. The load is spread across more of the rail, while both controls stay inside the mount's outline.

The No-Gap rings solve a different installation problem. Traditional split rings leave a gap on each side, and the installer has to keep those gaps even while tightening the ring screws. The LEAP/08 ring caps close against a marked side. That gives the ring a clear stop and leaves one gap to monitor, making uneven cap placement easier to spot before final torque.

LevelDrive is the small red tool shown below the scope turret in the installation photo. It threads into the mount and rises against a flat base of a compatible scope. As the two surfaces meet, the scope squares to the mount. The installer can then tighten the ring caps without holding a separate bubble level on the scope.

The body also accepts Scalarworks' current KICK accessories. The listed options include a 12 o'clock Picatinny platform, an offset RMR mount, and top mounts for the RMR, ACRO, and DPP/RMSc footprints. Those parts are separate, but the interface matters: a supported backup dot can move with the LPVO when the LEAP/08 is removed. Buy the 1.57-inch SW0815 when the rifle has a conventional carbine stock and you want the cheek to stay planted on the comb. It is the lighter choice, and its centerline sits inside the normal LPVO band. The lower height also reduces the mechanical offset between the sight line and the bore at close range.

Buy the 1.93-inch SW0825 when you need an upright head position or more room above a light or laser mounted on the top rail. The extra 0.36 inch can help behind armor and helmets, but it also lifts the eyepiece away from the stock. A low comb may need a riser before the taller mount feels repeatable in prone.

The new LEAP/08 is for a 30mm scope on a Picatinny rail. A 34mm LPVO needs a different mount, and neither version adds the 20 MOA of cant some long-range rifles use to preserve elevation travel. For a carbine with a 30mm LPVO, that narrow scope is useful: the decision comes down to height rather than a matrix of tube sizes and angles.

The closest alternatives split in two directions. Fixed mounts such as the Badger Condition One and Reptilia AUS trade quick removal for broad accessory systems. Lever-based QD mounts such as the American Defense RECON add more weight and a larger control.
