Only the MOS version of the Gen5 Glock 17 takes an optic. The standard Gen5 17 slide has no pocket and no mounting holes, so mounting a dot on one means a milling service or an aftermarket optic-cut slide. Full-size slide real estate does mean the Glock 17 MOS handles the large enclosed-emitter optics comfortably, which is not always true on the compact frames.
