Rhode Island Law in Detail

Rhode Island General Laws section 11-47.1-2 defines a large-capacity feeding device as a magazine, box, drum, tube, belt, feed strip, or similar device capable of accepting, or readily converted to accept, more than 10 rounds. An attached .22-caliber rimfire tubular device is excluded.

Section 11-47.1-3 gave a person who possessed a covered device on June 20, 2022 a 180-day choice to permanently modify it, surrender it, or transfer it to a licensed dealer or an eligible out-of-state recipient. The statute did not create an ongoing general possession grandfather.
