Colorado Magazine Limit: 15 Rounds

Colorado's large-capacity-magazine provisions use a 15-round threshold and also reach a magazine that can be readily restored or converted above that threshold. The definition excludes a permanently altered device, an attached .22-caliber tubular device, and a tubular shotgun magazine that is 28 inches or shorter.

The possession exception in section 18-12-302 turns on ownership on July 1, 2013 and continuous possession. The statute places the burden on a prosecutor to disprove the exception once a defendant produces evidence supporting it.

There is no federal magazine capacity limit; the 1994 federal assault weapons ban expired in 2004.
